Tirando del mantón”, “El olivo pastor”, “Pan aceite”, “Tierra ibera”, “La patrona del olivar” and “El mar de olivos” are just six of the many murals belonging to this open-air museum in the town of Peal, reminiscing of olive groves and oil.

The artist Faustino Castillo Plaza (La lruela, Jaén, 1957) has promoted a unique Mural Tour of the Olive Grove in the town of Peal de Becerro (Jaén), artistic creations that dress the old part of the town, due to the generosity of the neighbours who offered their walss to house this murals

Center about the Archaeological Heritage of the town of Quesada, including the set of Cultural Goods of Interest, with 22 caves that define the prehistoric map of the town, considered Unesco World Heritage, and the Roman Town of Bruñel.

It also has a space dedicated to the traditional games of the area, such as hopscoth, “serrano” bowling, etc.

The bottom floor of the Rafael Zabaleta Museum building houses a big part of the legacy of Miguel Hernández, author of the “Andalusians of Jaén” poem. Its 553.85 m2 surface offers a tour of the work and life of the poet and his wife, que Quesada-born Josefina Manresa, a love story full of passion and emotions, and goes over the lifeofthepoet in 6 different rooms.

The museum, at the heart of the Sierra of Cazorla, was opened in 2008 and it has a surface of 800 m2 divided on two floors.

It hots a very significant part of the work of Rafael Zabaleta, renowned expressionist painter. born in Quesada. His work was clearly influenced by Picasso, a friend of his. His work is very baried, 114 oil paintings, 11 watercolours and 500 drawings, most of them being based on olive groves and their people. It representd very well all of his eras and influences.

The museum is complete with artworks of grandmasters of the 20th century, like Miró, Picasso, Tapies, Canogar or Miralles, who paid homage after his passing by giving their artwork to the museum. Since 2021 a new space dedicated to the painter Jose Luis Verdes, who had a special relationship with Quesada, where he lived for ten years, has been opened.
