The museum, at the heart of the Sierra of Cazorla, was opened in 2008 and it has a surface of 800 m2 divided on two floors.
It hots a very significant part of the work of Rafael Zabaleta, renowned expressionist painter. born in Quesada. His work was clearly influenced by Picasso, a friend of his. His work is very baried, 114 oil paintings, 11 watercolours and 500 drawings, most of them being based on olive groves and their people. It representd very well all of his eras and influences.
The museum is complete with artworks of grandmasters of the 20th century, like Miró, Picasso, Tapies, Canogar or Miralles, who paid homage after his passing by giving their artwork to the museum. Since 2021 a new space dedicated to the painter Jose Luis Verdes, who had a special relationship with Quesada, where he lived for ten years, has been opened.
